{"id":12931,"date":"2024-04-22T18:50:09","date_gmt":"2024-04-22T18:50:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/redlakewes.com\/wp2\/?p=12931"},"modified":"2024-04-22T18:50:52","modified_gmt":"2024-04-22T18:50:52","slug":"johnny-max-band-and-the-weber-brothers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/redlakewes.com\/wp2\/johnny-max-band-and-the-weber-brothers\/","title":{"rendered":"Johnny Max Band and The Weber Brothers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Wilderness Entertainment Series Review \u2013 Johnny Max Band\u00a0 I\u00a0 Weber Brothers, April 10, 2024, Red Lake Legion<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>by Marilyn Duncalfe<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It was a weekday night with a decidedly weekend vibe.\u00a0 The culmination was a musical jamboree featuring nine highly-talented musicians having a rip roaring good time on the modest Red Lake stage.\u00a0 Pinch me. \u00a0It truly was \u201cdouble the pleasure, double the fun\u201d.\u00a0 Let\u2019s unpack the show.<\/p>\n<p>High-octane electric roots music was\u00a0 capablly delivered to the enthusiastic crowd by two prominent, tight and stellar bands, both active for years in the Toronto music scene.\u00a0 First up was the Johnny Max Band.<\/p>\n<p>With front man and vocalist Johnny leading the charge, the two excellent guitar players and bumpin\u2019 rhythm section provided a range of bluesy music that one audience member likened to the style of Delbert McClinton.\u00a0 Perhaps best exemplifying the tone and tenor of the act would be to mention that one tune on offer was entitled \u201cMemphis Women and Fried Chicken\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>It is often the case that when bands perform their original music on stage, the audience is secretly waiting for the covers.\u00a0 Although some great covers were on offer, the crowd\u00a0 was whole-heartedlyimmersed in the songs authored by both bands.<\/p>\n<p>Next up were the Weber Brothers.\u00a0 With a cross of rockabilly blues and even a hint of jazz, it was on with the second half of the show.\u00a0 Coming with a tradition of performing with high-profile celebs such as Kris Kristofferson and the pride of Arkansas &amp; Toronto, Ronnie Hawkins, the four piece band pounded out the tunes.<\/p>\n<p>During the standing O, the cheering crowd was delighted when the Weber Brothers called the Johnny Max Band back up to the stage.\u00a0 A high-energy jam of Bo Diddley\u2019s classic \u201cWho Do You Love\u201d? \u201d ensued.<\/p>\n<p>It was a bit of a mind-bend to be transported to such a different space on a dullish April night.\u00a0 Angela Bishop, the Wilderness Entertainment Series Emcee, noted in her intro, that WES has so far brought over 80 shows to Red Lake since its inception.\u00a0\u00a0 There seemed to be no dispute from the audience that this dual performance truly delivered the goods.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wilderness Entertainment Series Review \u2013 Johnny Max Band\u00a0 I\u00a0 Weber Brothers, April 10, 2024, Red Lake Legion \u00a0 by Marilyn Duncalfe &nbsp; It was a weekday night with a decidedly weekend vibe.\u00a0 The culmination was a musical jamboree featuring nine highly-talented musicians having a rip roaring good time on the modest Red Lake stage.\u00a0 Pinch me.
